Conclusions:
The methods used over the years to prescribe the combination of external beam and brachytherapy have yielded gratifying results that have improved based on clinical observations and technical improvements. These prescription methods need to incorporate the technology now available. Incorporating brachytherapy dose distributions obtained with CT/MR compatible applicators with IMRT may result in improved treatment outcomes, particularly with the more advanced stages of the disease. New dose prescription guidelines may emerge from this approach.
