About the Presenter:
Melinda Villagrán is an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Texas at San Antonio and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Heath Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Villagran's research program investigates the intersections among communication, culture, and cognition, in order to better understand the processes affecting patients and health care consumers. Currently, she is conducting research on communicating about cancer among cancer patients, health care provider organizations, family members, and survivors. She is the author or co-author of numerous journal articles, books, and book chapters on the topic of communicating about cancer. Currently, she is the Chair of the Health Communication Division of the Eastern Communication Association.
